Apple CEO Tim Cook recently told NBC News' Brian Williams that it's time to shift all manufacturing back to the United States.Could that mean an opportunity for Apple to develop operations in the Mohawk Valley?
The Albany Times Union reports that a company associated with Apple has been looking at a site in Malta and SUNYIT as a possibility for placement of a manufacturing plant to create computer chips for iPhones and iPads.
The only details being released at this time include plans for a 3.2 million square foot production plant, which could cost billions to build.
Calls to Mohawk Valley EDGE were not returned.
Plans to bring a chip fab facility to the Mohawk valley have been talked about for more than a decade.
