How To Organize Kids' Craft Supplies ? Rockin Mama?

Having set absolutely no resolutions this year, I feel the weight of those things I want to ?right? in 2013.? My husband can attest to the fact that I struggle with organization, so while I haven?t set any formal plans, I?m slowly tackling some small projects that will hopefully equate to big improvements in how I organize our lives.

In my never-ending attempt to contain my children?s things, I decided to tackle their craft supplies this week.? 2012 was the year I started regularly crafting with my kids, and unknowingly, we collected quite a number of items including too many markers, glitter, foam, stickers, construction paper, and more. Those items have been stored in small bags in our spare bedroom and our downstairs faux office area, so when I gathered them all together, I was quite surprised at how much we actually had!

I immediately knew that I wanted to get some plastic storage containers that could easily be labeled for my kids.? I headed over to Walmart and found a TON of organizational ideas, including kid-friendly products in pinks, blues,and greens.? But since I plan to keep these in our office, I opted for a more neutral, versatile style that would last beyond the childhood years. Here is what I picked up to begin our organizational project:

I also used my Dymo LabelManager, which can be purchased at Walmart for around $60. My handwriting mimics that of physicians so I prefer to make my own labels, but Walmart offers a ton of affordable labeling options.

Because this is a kids? organization project, you could enlist the assistance of your children by having them sort items. My son enjoyed doing this with me but I imagine my daughter would have gotten distracted by all of the fun crafting items.

This is a very simple project that doesn?t take a long time, even if you have a lot of items.? You may need more (or less) units, depending on how large your craft supply inventory is. You can stack them, if desired, but I prefer to keep them at a level that my children can reach them.
