Polish police on high alert for hooligan violence

(AP) ? Dozens of Polish police wearing full riot gear kept a close watch on Russian soccer fans heading to their country's European Championship game against Greece on Saturday.

Around 20,000 Russians were expected to attend the match in Warsaw, and authorities have been worried about the potential for more trouble after disturbances between Polish and Russian hooligans on Tuesday led to a few dozen injuries and more than 200 arrests.

Before Saturday's match, UEFA President Michel Platini called on fans to behave with "dignity and respect," and at Wroclaw where Poland was playing the Czech Republic at the same time.

"I appeal therefore to all fans that are going to Warsaw or Wroclaw tonight as we prepare for the deciding matches in Group A to conduct themselves with dignity and respect, and to behave themselves this evening at the stadiums and in the cities," Platini said in a statement issued by UEFA.

As the game in Warsaw approached, thousands of Russians poured across a bridge to the National Stadium. There were no immediate reports of violence, and the atmosphere appeared to be calm and good-natured. Noisy groups of fans, some wrapped in Russian flags, chanted "We have come to win" and "Russia can only win." One Russian had a photo taken with a riot officer and shook his hand.

Russian fans also waved to Polish supporters going in the opposite direction to a fan zone in downtown Warsaw, in contrast to tensions and scattered outbreaks of violence Tuesday. Earlier Saturday, reports from border crossings said fewer Russian fans were coming than expected and that the mood was friendly.

Tuesday's fighting came as thousands of Russians marched over the bridge to the stadium for the highly charged Poland-Russia game that later ended in a 1-1 tie. It came on the Russia Day holiday and the Russians marched in a group, waving flags and nationalist symbols. The mass expression of Russian patriotism in Warsaw's capital was provocative to some Poles, who still deeply resent Moscow's imposition of communism here during the Cold War.

One of the worst cases of violence involved police firing rubber bullets and tear gas at young Polish men who attacked them with stones and bottles. Another scuffle near the stadium was apparently started by Russians.

Is Texas dad who killed man to protect his 5-year-old daughter a criminal?

A Texas grand jury must decide whether to charge a father who killed a man after finding the man molesting his 5-year-old daughter. Does deadly force extend to a father protecting his daughter?

By Patrik Jonsson,?Staff writer / June 16, 2012

In Shiner, Texas, there?s little doubt among residents that a 23-year-old man who reportedly killed a man he found molesting his 5-year-old daughter in a horse barn should be hailed as a hero, not denounced as a criminal.

Yet some legal experts question why the father hasn?t yet been arrested and charged with murder, saying vigilante justice, no matter how the circumstances come about, can?t be tolerated in a civil society.

A Texas grand jury will have to deal with those questions next week as it takes a deeper look at the circumstances of the killing, and whether the father was justified in hitting the man so hard with his fists that he died.

In most jurisdictions, according to ?Criminal Law,? a widely used textbook, the use of fists in defense if there are no other weapons present is automatically an example of reasonable force. But in this case, were emotions an extenuating circumstance that caused the angry dad to go too far? More broadly, when is a person in a defensive fight required to stop?

?Assuming it?s true that this guy was molesting the daughter ? he would then have the right to defend her and hit him enough to have him stop,? James Harrington, director of the Texas Civil Rights Project, told Foxnews.com. ?But you cannot summarily execute him, even though I can understand the anger he would have.?

He added: ?The question is: When does it move beyond self-defense??

And there?s another quirk to the case, suggests radio talk show host Geraldo Rivera, a lawyer.

?If he had a weapon and he used it to stop a sexual assault, he would not be indicted, but, ironically, the fact that he didn?t have a weapon leaves him more legally vulnerable than otherwise he would be,? Mr. Rivera told Bill O?Reilly Friday on Fox News. ?In this case, you grab him off, now you?ve stopped the sexual assault, but now what are you doing? At what point does prevention of the sex assault become revenge, the implementation of vigilante justice??

So far, the court of public opinion has stood steadfastly behind the father.?

?Any father would have done that," Michael James Veit, a neighbor, told CNN on Thursday. "Everybody is saying the father is justified."

The killing happened last Saturday, according to Lacava County Sheriff Micah Harmon, after the man?s daughter had gone to a barn to feed the family?s chickens, and then began screaming.

When the father ran to investigate, he found a man described as a family acquaintance, a horse groomer, sexually abusing the girl. Police have not released any names, in part to protect the girl?s identity, and, in the case of the man who was killed, because they have not yet located his relatives in Mexico.

According to the county coroner, the man died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck. Eyewitnesses arrived to see the alleged molester already on the ground, not moving. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released for minor injuries.

While police continue to investigate, they have so far found no reason to disbelieve the man?s story. The dad ?had remorse,? says Sheriff Harmon. ?It wasn?t his intent [to kill anybody]. He was protecting his daughter and doing what he thought he had to do to protect his daughter.?

Despite the dad?s potential legal liability, Rivera said, most American jurors ? given the facts as known at the moment ? would agree with Harmon.

I have an idea.

Hey, this is sanofa, your average RP-er.
This is my second post, so don't blame me for posting on the wrong thread, try to tell me where I can put my posts in threads :D
Anyway, back to the main reason of why I posted this.

In all the other role-plays, there are role-plays that has to do with dices, which where you roll a dice in order to attack. That is one of the common Role-Plays in the role-playing community. Another is where you do nothing but tell a story, which exactly means that how you end up, is not by your skills to role-play, but to tell a perfect story. The second one is my favorite, since mostly I won't have too many restrictions like not attacking other player's character (Not saying it's a fuss, but I feel very restricted with it, as since I cannot move accordingly to my story.).

Now if this is the thread for suggesting designs for role-play, I have an idea.
Instead of waiting for everyone to post their story, I've thought up of an role-play function called the "Story Continuing"(Its my own stupid made-up name, it never existed, maybe it did, but I have no idea of where it has.). The basic function of the "story continuing", is to continue the post that the GM (And ONLY the GM.) had made. Something like this :

Code: Select all
The skies was dark, and the animals started to flee. He could see pieces of lighting approach closer and closer, until the lighting was only a few meters in front of him.

The GM had made a post, and now, it is up to other players to use their creative imaginations, and continue the post, like this :

Code: Select all
The lighting approached, and I took a step back, terrified by the lighting that had miraculously not hit me. My feet was shaking, and I sat down. I looked at the direction the lighting had struck, with a terrified face.

Now I had continued the GM's post. The idea of this post, is to not mix up the player's ideas, and instead, they can use the other player's character at any way they want (Of course, if it's the death of the characters are involved, the one will who will cause the character to died, MUST get permission from the character's owner. Another thing is that the personalities, weapons, or anything personal, must stay they way the character's owner had made them to be).

This is just my idea of another of RP-ing, and anyone can modify it to any way they want, and make it enjoyable to the many Role-Players out there in the world.

"Till then,
Farewell.

Warmest regards,
sanofa.

After Raising $1.6M, SimpleReach Launches To Become The PageRank Of Social

LogoPivoting is a part of life for startups. But, generally speaking, most entrepreneurs aren't going to go out of their way to pivot right when their business starts taking off. But that's what SimpleReach did. The startup's first product, The Slide, is a simple widget that lets publishers recommend similar content at the bottom of articles. In just a few months, it was adopted by thousands of publishers, like Freakonomics.com, sparknotes.com, disinfo.com, The Washington Times, and SF Gate -- to name a few. Yet, in spite of strong early growth and graduating from AngelPad's accelerator program, they decided to pivot. They froze all new signups to The Slide and turned their attention to an idea they believed could have a much larger impact. Today, the NYC-based startup is revealing its new solution, a product founder Eddie Kim calls the "PageRank of social."

Lamar Smith: Obama's amnesty for illegal immigrants is against the law

The Obama administration decision for immunity from deportation for young illegal immigrants is a breach of faith with Americans. It also blatantly ignores the law. This isn't the first time Obama has waived rules or refused to enforce laws against illegal immigration, writes Rep. Smith.

By Lamar Smith / June 15, 2012

President Obama responds June 15 as he is interrupted while announcing that his administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants. Op-ed contributor Rep. Lamar Smith writes that to 'ignore Congress and the Constitution is exactly what the president has done.'

It?s said that desperate times call for desperate measures. But in these dismal economic and political times, the Obama administration has called for unlawful measures that grant amnesty to potentially millions of illegal immigrants.

Today, Janet Napolitano, secretary of Homeland Security, announced immunity from deportation for illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States before they turned 16 and who are younger than 30 ? among other criteria. They can apply for a two-year work permit that can be renewed indefinitely.

The decision is not just a breach of faith with the American people. It blatantly ignores the rule of law that is the foundation of our democracy.

In an interview with Univision television earlier this year, President Obama said that he can?t just ?waive away the laws that Congress put in place? and that ?the president doesn?t have the authority to simply ignore Congress and say, ?We?re not going to enforce the laws that you?ve passed.??

But ignore Congress and the Constitution is exactly what the president has done ?? and this isn?t the first time. Throughout the past three years of his administration, Mr. Obama has waived applying several of our immigration rules and has refused to enforce other immigration laws.

Earlier this year, administration officials at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) outlined their plan to ignore a rule that requires illegal immigrants to leave the US before they can then ask the federal government to waive a law that bans them from legally returning here for several years.

While the waiver of this rule is sometimes allowed under current law, it is only applied on a case-by-case basis, not to entire categories of illegal immigrants. But Obama and his administration have bent these established rules by applying them to potentially millions of illegal immigrants.

And this decision comes on the heels of an even larger plan to reward illegal immigrants. Last year, political appointees at DHS issued new deportation guidelines to target illegal immigrants that have been identified by DHS. That amounts to backdoor amnesty and strikes another blow at the 13 million unemployed American workers.

Under Obama?s deportation policy, DHS officials review all incoming and most pending cases before an immigration court to determine if the illegal immigrant can remain in the US. Since DHS political appointees have made clear that many illegal immigrants are not considered ?priorities? for removal, this means that potentially millions of illegal immigrants can remain in the US without a vote of Congress.

The administration?s amnesty policy, expanded once again, not only violates the rule of law, it only benefits illegal immigrants, not Americans, and is a magnet for fraud. Many illegal immigrants will falsely claim they came here as children or are under the age of 30 and the federal government has no way to check whether their claims are true.

And once these illegal immigrants are granted deferred action, they can then apply for a work permit, which the administration routinely grants 90 percent of the time. This could put even more US citizens on the unemployment rolls.

Ignoring Congress and the Constitution may be politically convenient for President Obama, but this huge policy shift has horrible consequences for unemployed Americans looking for jobs. It violates the president?s oath to uphold the laws of this land.

It doesn?t matter how bleak poll numbers are or how low campaign coffers may be, the president of the United States cannot ignore the rule of law.

Rep. Lamar Smith (R) of Texas is Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
